Woven willow and bamboo coffins – a softer, more gentle choice for children

Reminiscent of a Moses Basket crib, the choice of a beautiful and delicate woven basketwork coffin can feel gentler and more appropriate for a child.

Our woven coffins are carefully handwoven by skilled craftspeople using traditional weaving methods. They are made from natural materials and contain no metal or plastic parts and so are totally biodegradable.

The natural colour of the willow or bamboo is beautiful but, if preferred, any other colour can be chosen to personalise a child’s coffin.

We take great care and pride in meticulously checking and preparing every coffin to ensure it is perfect before despatch. All our coffins are certified by the F.F.M.A. and are suitable for natural, or woodland, burial or cremation.

Can I order a coloured coffin for my child?

The woven coffin you choose for your child can be painted in white, pastel pink, powder blue, soft lilac or any other colour you choose. We take great care when painting wicker or bamboo coffins and the result is beautiful and very personal.

How can I personalise a child’s coffin?

Apart from paint colour, toys or simple flowers are always a beautiful way to decorate and personalise a coffin for a child. Our Heart Message Tags are another way to add a personal touch, each wooden heart can be hand-written or engraved with family messages that can decorate the coffin and can be kept as treasured mementos if desired.

What coffin sizes are available for babies and children?

It’s important that the coffin for a child is an appropriate size. Our children’s range includes sizes from tiny baby coffins to those suitable for older children and teenagers.

What keepsakes are suitable for children and babies?

We have a range of touching and appropriate keepsakes to honour and remember a brief and beautiful life. Heart shaped wooden keepsakes can hold ashes or locks of hair or other tiny mementos, our Eternity Candle keepsake can also store ashes or mementos below a tealight candle. Each can be engraved with personal messages and you can design these yourself with our simple online design tool.

Photo memorials such as Tribute Box memory boxes or photo frame urns can be a lovely way to remember a child. Some sizes of photo urns can hold multiple pictures and can be used for handprints or poems as well as photographs.

Huggable Teddy keepsakes are also a lovely way to remember a child, particularly for children who have lost a brother or sister.

If you are scattering ashes we have a wide range of beautiful Scatter Tubes urns, some especially created to be suitable for children. There is a sweet Teddy Bear Scatter Tube, a lovely Butterfly with daisies, or our Feather design which is available in pink or blue. An alternative for ashes scattering is the Scatter Pouch, handwoven in natural bamboo in a pillow shape and lined with cotton calico. Scatter Tubes are available from your funeral director.
